FOURTEEN BAGS · EIGHT NEW

We replaced eight heavy bags in January. Here is what we bought and what we would not buy again.

We opened on Springdale Road in the spring of 2019 with six heavy bags, and there are fourteen hanging now. By last winter eight of them had split seams, sagging bottoms, or chains we no longer trusted, so in January we replaced all eight over one weekend.

We did not buy one kind. Four are long leather bags for the boxing side, two are banana bags that hang low enough for kicks, and two are uppercut bags on the wall beside the ring.

What we would buy again: the leather boxing bags. They took about a month to break in and now feel better than anything we had before.

What we would buy again: the leather boxing bags. They took about a month to break in and now feel better than anything we had before.

What we would not buy again: the cheaper fabric filled banana bags. They settled at the bottom within six weeks, and somebody now tops them up every month. If you noticed a new smell in February, that was the leather. It is fading.
